About Kunsthøjskolen
A stay at Kunsthøjskolen is an inspiring union of enthusiastic and responsible people, both teachers and participants, giving impetus to a possible further development either as a creative artist or as a knowledgeable and competent appreciator of art.
We work with contemporary and relevant artistic themes. Kunsthøjskolen offers a variety of practical and theoretical approaches to e.g. architecture, the visual arts, dance, photo, music, sculpture, pottery and video.
Artists teach all subjects, who then communicate their understanding and practical experience with art, both in professional and human terms.
Different visiting guest-teachers and lecturers provide a necessary input from the art-scene around us. The individual participant’s concepts and ideas are challenged through the on-going work-process, lectures and discussions.
Our workshops are open around the clock. The school community and discussions in and outside teaching are important sources of energy, enriching the artistic work.
Kunsthøjskolen provides the framework for an intensively creative environment, where social life plays an important everyday role as well as contributing to the end result.
A stay at a folk high school is much more than purely professional training.
The sculptor Ulrika Marséen, who founded Kunsthøjskolen, spoke in 1964 of her aims with the school, (still relevant today): “NOT A FACTORY FOR PRODUCING ARTISTS, BUT A PLACE WHERE CREATIVE TALENTS ARE DEVELOPED BY WORKING WITH THE VARIOUS EXPRESSIVE FORMS OF THE DIFFERENT ARTISTIC FIELDS”
